Every night after dinner, all of camp gets together for evening activity (also known as EA). Evening Activity can include anything from team building activities done by specific tents of campers, carnivals, ice cream socials and mock-game shows/variety shows, in which campers and counselors participate in a mainly improvised performance to entertain all of camp. Below you will find a more in-depth description of what many EA’s might be and how all of camp is included equally in various ways.

Team Building Evenings
EA’s that focus on bonding and team building often occur towards the beginning of each session, and include sand-castle building, introductory skits, and free-choice tent activities, where each tent, along with the tent counselors, engage in an activity of their choice as a tent. These EA’s help campers feel comfortable with their tentmates and help dissipate any awkwardness or lack of comfort in the first few days.

Game Shows/Variety Shows
On these evenings, campers and counselors channel their inner Late-Night Television Host by putting on some sort of performance devised by our Program Directors. This can include trivia shows with broad camper participation or parody performances like the EA known as “TV” where groups of staff and campers cooperate to put on a 2-3 minute skit that mocks a television show through the lens of camp. The product of these EA’s is laughter, with constant humor that often results in inside jokes among campers that last for years. Self-Expression/Dances
Finally, some of the most conducive EA’s to camper’s confidence are our self-expression activities. Once every four weeks, we hold an open mic night, where campers or staff can perform anything they’d like in front of camp, from singing and dancing to reading prose to showing off a unique talent. The camp community is incredibly supportive of anyone’s choice to perform during these types of EA’s. Last but certainly not least are our weekly dances, known across generations of campers as some of the most lively and exciting moments of the summers. Counselors “DJ” a playlist that mixes camp-classics with a sampling of modern hits and all of camp dances in any way they want, singing along and jumping in an entirely unchoreographed release, complete with neon lights, disco balls, and a smoke machine. |
