Our Philosophy, Core Values & Goals
Echo Hill Camp, founded in 1914, carries the same values today that it held when it was founded over 100 years ago. We are dedicated to helping children have a happy, exciting, and meaningful experience while they build self-confidence and gain respect for themselves and others in a safe and nurturing environment. Echo Hill fosters an immense amount of love and kindness which leads to lasting friendships and unforgettable memories. Above all else, we provide a place where a child may practice the inalienable right of youth … to be free, happy, and safe.
ECHO HILL CAMP - MISSION STATEMENT
To provide a fun, safe, and positive camping experience to every child who comes to Echo Hill Camp. To create a community whose goal is to sustain an atmosphere of acceptance without judgement, freedom without danger, and love without fear that will allow every child to explore the depths of their personality and fully embrace their own individuality. To protect Echo Hill's legacy of Quaker values, immersion into and appreciation of the natural environment, and a respite from materialism that teaches children to appreciate others not on the wealth of their possessions, but on the strength of their character. To create a youthful ruckus of adventure and spirit where souls are ripened and freedom is discovered. To give each child the gift of reliable and conscientious role models who are genuinely invested in their welfare. To promote another unique and magical Echo Hill Camp summer. |
Our Core Values
At Echo Hill Camp we try to treat each other with love and respect, practice integrity and equality, and value simplicity and community, with safety being our #1 priority. Our mission statement is the very heart and soul of who we are and constantly strive to be. Our core values shape every detail … because it's our campers, staff, and alumni who live these values and create camp magic.
Safety is our first core value. The physical security and health of our campers and staff are always the #1 priority. It's why Echo Hill safety protocols and policies are learned, practiced, and practiced and practiced again … until it is second nature to our staff. We have experienced medical professionals who are always on-site. Creating and protecting a safe space for campers and staff to grow, ensures emotional safety and well-being. There’s no room for hate, only love, and acceptance. Safety is our foundation.
Integrity and Equality. Every person who sets foot on camp is accepted and celebrated, just as they are. EHC strives to be a place where campers experience radical acceptance for who they are, are treated with dignity and respect, and are surrounded by the power of nature. As our mission statement says, we strive to "sustain an atmosphere of acceptance without judgment, freedom without danger, and love without fear that will allow every child to explore the depths of their personality and fully embrace their own individuality."
Simplicity and Community. Campers and staff get a rare chance to move away from the usual comforts of home and technology. This experience of simplicity is one of the gifts of Echo Hill Camp, as campers learn to connect with themselves, their bodies, each other, and the natural world, instead of with screens and busy schedules. This simple way of living creates a strong sense of community that we are all proud to be a part of.
Love and respect. We hope that fostering a community that embodies these core values will create a world where safety, love, respect, and equality are at the foundation of every day and in every interaction.
Echo Hill is a non-religious organization that draws inspiration from Quaker roots. We look to the Quaker values of integrity, equity, simplicity, community, stewardship of the Earth, and peace as pillars for creating a safe and open community. Echo Hill is a place of acceptance, where staff and campers are welcome regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.
