Sailing is one of the most exciting sports offered by the Chesapeake Bay area. The fundamentals from crew through skipper are taught by an expert staff. With a half dozen Sunfish, three Lasers and a command boat we stress individual instruction. Our fleet consists of a variety of boats including two Hobie Cats, a Cal 25, two Flying Scots and several windsurfers. Racing our Sunfish and Lasers has become a popular activity. Our van and trailers can transport the boats and the Echo Hill Racing Team to local regattas. Echo Hill also hosts one of the largest youth regattas on the Upper Eastern Shore. Any camper with the desire can be a member of the Racing Team.
The camp has a commercial crab potter’s license and sets its own string of traps along the shore. From our 22’ fishing boat, campers learn to pull the crab pots, empty and re-bait them. The fresh catch is steamed and served to the camp the same day. Net and pole fishing are popular activities, taking place from our beach and also aboard our fishing boat. Daytrips to go fishing are very popular among campers. Several times during the summer the camp rents out a charter boat to take campers Rockfish fishing further out in the Bay.
Water skiing and tubing are thrilling sports enjoyed by all campers. Water skiing is patiently taught by expert instructors following the program of the USA Waterski Association. Beginners advance from the tube to two skis and then to one ski slalom. Advanced skiers may learn to use trick skis. Still Pond Creek is only a short boat ride from our waterfront. Even when the Bay is rough, skiing conditions are superb in Still Pond. Individual, expert instruction is given to the beginner, intermediate and advanced water skier. Echo Hill maintains several power boats for our water skiing, tubing and sailing programs. All boat drivers are licensed by the United States Coast Guard and are Red Cross Lifeguards.
