Meals are a very important time here at Echo Hill. We pride ourselves not only on the delicious cuisine that our chefs Miss Cindy and Miss Cheryl cook, but also on the fun, energetic atmosphere that surround every meal. We eat in The Whip which was once an exciting carnival ride that has been renovated into a 200 person capacity screened in dining hall. Where most camps eat indoors, this unique structure allows campers to spend 100% of their time outdoors. Certainly a defining quality to the Echo Hill experience.
Family Style Dining Campers and counselors are assigned to a table and sit at the same table for every meal for two weeks. The assigned tables mix campers of various ages and different genders to allow kids to meet other children as well as staff members they may not otherwise have spent time with. This consistency also provides our staff a chance to check in with every child 3 times a day. While our staff serves the food, each day a camper at the table is assigned to be “biddie” and is responsible for getting the food for the table and also clean up the table after the meal with help from our staff. Every meal consists of an entrée and 2-3 side dishes which vary every day. The taste buds never get bored! For every breakfast, in addition to the entrée and sides, there’s a cereal and yogurt bar, and at lunch and dinner, there’s a salad bar in its place.
Vegetarians For every meal there is a vegetarian option. There is also a full salad bar every lunch and dinner.
Feasts! In addition to the normal meals, once every two weeks there is a special day such as the Fourth of July, which is accompanied by a feast. These feasts typically last a couple hours and include special options such as Maryland crabs, steak, fried chicken, fruit salad, and cherry cobbler. These feasts are served outside and give campers an opportunity to share a meal with their friends. Other outdoor meals include twice a week cookout dinners, where campers are served hotdogs, hamburgers, and sausages among other goodies!
