The Official Blog Of
Echo Hill Camp
We here at Echo Hill have campers from all over the world! The different cultures and experiences that come with our campers allow them to learn from one another. To share stories that can only be appreciated from a first hand account. It may be true that at times the world may seem small, however the truth of the matter is that most of us will only experience a fraction of the diversity of our planet in our lifetime.
When campers arrive every summer and drive pass Echo Hill's famous poem that perfectly summarizes what each of them are about to embark on, they are arriving with more than just their luggage. They bring a culture that is unique to them. A history that is different from children not only from the other side of the planet, but even the town next door. It would be naive to say that differences among individuals don’t cause friction in today's society. There is a laundry list of global issues that when boiled down are essentially created by these same differences. However, year after year summer camps all over to world find a way to celebrate what makes each camper one of a kind. Campers return home with a different perspective of our planet. One that is positive and open-minded. They return home with an understanding that knowledge is more powerful then naive speculation. That it's okay to challenge negativity if they feel deep inside that it is wrong.
These campers will grow up and become the future leaders of our world because they understand that our borders are not what define us as inhabitants of our planet. What defines us is how we take advantage of what makes us unique and to learn from others to better ourselves. Summer camps are created with this on the forefront of their intention.
Contributions to the Echo Hill Blog are done by staff, campers, parents, and alumni. We hope you enjoy!
